Watch Carson McHone’s Video For New Single ‘Sad’ + UK Tour Dates Announced

Carson McHone has teamed up with female-run theatre & arts collective Present Company for Sad – her first ever music video. Carson tells us, “We are dealing with an abstract concept, the inner struggle with self, so I wanted the backdrop to be obviously staged to illustrate this metaphor. The video was shot at The White Horse, a (now) staple bar in the roots/country scene here in Austin and a place I’ve played for years and frequent often, but I didn’t want it to play a character itself – we weren’t trying to capture a night at the White Horse. We wanted the honky tonk thing to be a bit of a tease. The video opens with shots that could be out of your typical two stepping scene, but then all the chairs are up and the bar is obviously closed and there are two clowns dancing and moping about. Anyone who knows the bar will recognise it, but it was really just a stage for the theatricals, and a nod to those who know…”

Producing Artistic Director Steph Carll, adds, “Having known Carson for years, it was incredibly exciting to conceive and produce her first music video. Because of her lack of vanity and respect for performance of all types, we had the freedom to do something playful, theatrical, abstract. Knowing she shies away from conventional trends of genre, we wanted to create a unique and striking visual story–a stand-alone piece of art that both tips a hat and sticks a tongue out to her roots.”

Thanks to The Line Of Best Fit for premiering the video, telling readers, “Carousel sees Carson McHone swinging out of her corner of the Texas honky-tonks with the most exciting country record since Margo Price’s Midwest Farmer’s Daughter.”

Sad is taken from Carson McHone’s forthcoming album Carousel, which comes out on the 25th January 2019. Tickets for Carson’s UK tour are on sale now.
