Four Loose Artists Feature On Uncut's 'Sounds Of The New West' CD

Friday, 17th January 2020

The March issue of Uncut magazine features a fifth volume of Uncut's Sounds Of The New West CD series. (Not to be confused with our own New Sounds Of The Old West compilations.) Carson McHone, Frankie Lee, Courtney Marie Andrews and Gill Landry all make an appearance on the CD, alongside artists such as Tyler Childers, Drive-By Truckers, Hayes Carll and Kelsey Waldon, to name a few. Both Carson McHone and Courtney Marie Andrews contribute covers to the compilation, with Carson's "tender" rendition of David Ball's classic, Don't You Think I Feel It Too and, with her "customary vocal prowess", Courtney's cover of Tom Wait's Downtown Train. Bad Love, a previously unreleased track from Frankie Lee's Stillwater sessions, is also included and described as "a shiny, catchy piece of War On Drugs-style electro-boogie" with "Lee's fine songwriting clearly on show".Although Gill Landry's new album Skeleton At The Banquet isn't set for release until later this month, you can pick up the CD to check out Trouble Town, a "masterful slice of jazz-influenced noir" taken from the upcoming album which Uncut described as a "dark, perfectly weighted fifth from the US folk songwriter".
